The important collections of Byzantine art, archaeological objects and manuscripts, as well as the Byzantine-inspired painted decorations, as well as the humanist tradition and the central role accorded by the Reformation to the study and dissemination of the Greek language, give Switzerland a significant but too often overlooked place in the field of Byzantine studies.
